Initiative Spotlight: Trees-We-Cherish

Trees-We-Cherish

Do you have a tree that you love in your neighbourhood? Perhaps it’s a tree that you’ve had in your yard since you were a child, a heritage tree, or a favourite home for curious wildlife. Or maybe you feel a tree is under threat from development, snow removal, or invasive pests. Trees-We-Cherish is a Tree Ottawa initiative that looks to connect the Ottawa community to their surrounding natural habitat and trees. We want you to be as enthusiastic as we are about protecting and maintaining our current trees!

We also want to know if you’ve planted a new tree sapling, as this tree will be counted towards our goal of planting 1 million trees for Canada’s 150th anniversary – 1 tree for each person in Ottawa!

You can add your tree to the Great Ecology Ottawa Tree Map, which allows you to upload a profile for your tree and track how and when you care for the tree. Tree care tips can be found here. You can also post a photo and short blurb about why this tree is beautiful and important to you in the comments section of our Trees-We-Cherish page. We encourage everyone to share their own tree care tips and experiences in the comments section as well – the more information, the better! Thank yew!
